Jim Bartholomew worked his way up to become the director of a band at a young age. His friend Frank Cameron entrusts him with a piece of jewelry belonging to his wife for safekeeping: a copy of the famous ring 'The Daughters of the Night,' which was stolen from the Louvre in Paris. Fearing a bank robbery, Bartholomew leaves his weapon with his assistant Stephan Sanderson. Shortly thereafter, Sanderson is shot, with Bartholomew's revolver. Inspector Brown is at a loss.
