Franz Josef Czernin's new poems are transformations of Dante's "Commedia." They traverse heavenly and hellish circles, relate them to one another, unleash them upon each other, and allow them to merge. The foreign and, in a double sense, English quality of these poems inspires, divides, and breaks our own tongue to evoke the vision of those realities that can only be attested to through poetry.
