Around 1295, this work by the French mystic Margareta Porete was published in the form of psychodramatic dialogues between humans and God, as well as between individuals and themselves. It deals with an unconditional love for God that transcends all church mediations and moral norms. The texts were soon translated into other languages and found wide resonance, but they brought the author into conflict with the ecclesiastical authorities. In 1307, Margareta Porete was imprisoned and ultimately burned as a heretic along with her work.
