Product details
Since the 14th century, Barbara has been one of the most popular and frequently depicted saints. The daughter of a pagan merchant from Nicomedia (Turkey), she secretly became a Christian and suffered martyrdom under Emperor Maximinus Daza in 306. Barbara, whose feast is celebrated on December 4th, is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, and is particularly invoked as a companion for a good death. She is also the patron saint of miners and artillery. This volume paints a picture of the saint through numerous legends and customs, songs, and poems.
