The distressing finding of a profound crisis of modernity sociologically calls for the determination of the relationship and boundaries between the individual and society. In terms of political theory, it is therefore advisable to clarify the conditions under which the supposedly most private matter, sexuality, becomes the subject of public debates and regulations. There is no direct path from Sigmund Freud to Hannah Arendt, and even upon closer inspection, there is little that connects them. In his chronological exploration of their works, Sven Rössler attempts to cultivate a way of thinking that engages with detours, dead ends, and contradictions, freeing itself from supposed evidences. This approach aims to enter into a dialogue with the texts and phenomena discussed, allowing them to speak for themselves while being deeply influenced in the process.
