Katarina Zdjelar's video, sound, and text works document moments of physical expression that become visible and audible in the transition from language to music. They illustrate how historical and geopolitical constraints affect individual or collective desires. In "The Perfect Sound" (2009), for example, the artist recorded a session of an English speech therapist who, through targeted voice training, helps an immigrant lose their foreign accent. The therapist intones, and the patient mimics the foreign sounds. The voice training is intended to facilitate the newcomer’s smooth integration into British society and protect them from harassment - according to the authorities' intention. The publication "Towards a Further Word" is based on Katarina Zdjelar's solo exhibition at the Bielefeld Art Association in 2014 and brings together selected works from the past six years.
