The diversity of the Egge Mountains and the numerous culturally and historically significant sights are key reasons why the Egge Trail is considered one of the most popular ridge hiking trails in Germany. Its quality is also reflected in the fact that in 2010, it was awarded the title of "Quality Trail" by the German Hiking Association for the third consecutive time, making it the first hiking trail in Germany to receive this honor. Along the path, remnants of Saxon hill forts, old boundary stones, and way markers can be discovered, as well as historical mountain passes. Additionally, the forest reveals various traces of mineral extraction, glass production, charcoal burning, and forest management. The Teutoburg Forest / Egge Mountains Nature Park and the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe aim to highlight these cultural landscape features.
