This small book owes its creation to the initiative of L'Aluminium Commercial S.A., a company belonging to the Aluminium Limited group in Zurich. The task it sets out to accomplish can be described as follows: It aims to outline the essential principles for the design, calculation, and execution of structures made from aluminum alloys, based on the material's unique properties. Since these principles are closely related to those of steel construction, it seemed appropriate to align their presentation with the current state of European steel construction. It is, of course, evident that this endeavor had to rely heavily on today's technology of aluminum alloys, and I could not have undertaken this work without the generous and accommodating support of various companies.
