When people think of trans* sexuality, they often first consider the phenomenon of transgender identity. But what about the sexuality of trans* individuals? What constitutes good sex for them? And are genital affirmation surgeries necessary for a fulfilling sexual experience?
To answer these questions, Jonas Hamm conducted interviews with trans* individuals who do not seek genital surgery, discussing what good sex means to them and the journey to achieving it. To bridge the often seemingly contradictory gap between gender role and genital status, the interviewees draw on a variety of intrapsychic, interpersonal, and collective resources and strategies. Hamm analyzes the learning and development processes of his interview partners, challenges prejudices, and offers new insights for counseling work.
