Product details
The abuse cases at the Iraqi Abu Ghraib prison caused worldwide outrage in May 2004. This study examines the American discourse surrounding Abu Ghraib. It offers an interpretation of the scandal photographs and a comprehensive analysis of press articles and television transcripts (2004-2009), revealing for the first time the long-term consequences of the scandal for politics, law, art, popular culture, and the discourse on torture. Werner Binder not only fills a research gap regarding Abu Ghraib but also provides an independent contribution to the development of cultural sociological theory.
