Why are families at the intersection of migration and disability hardly reached by disability services? Academic literature and research seem to agree: they speak of a cultural foreignness of the families that hinders access to the support system. A similar opinion exists within the services and institutions of disability support. A different cultural interpretation of disability, a different approach to the disabled child – this does not align with the expectations of disability services. Are these assumptions correct? The study by Donja Amirpur yields different results. It illustrates the complex life situations of the families. Through biographical interviews and with the help of an intersectional multi-level analysis, it presents the barriers within the support system and advances the critical examination of the hegemonic practices at the structural level.
