Product details
Since the 1990s, embroidery has been gaining popularity as a medium of art. Artists use this practice, which is considered a distilled expression of decency and bourgeois order, to counter the extravagant gesture of an autonomous artist subject. Through its connotations, the technique challenges normative discourses in art history and the bipolar gender order. The volume examines how this old-fashioned craft imbues artworks with resistance and what new rhetorics emerge from it, focusing on the works of Ghada Amer, Jochen Flinzer, Annette Messager, Francesco Vezzoli, among others.
