The artistic experiment, unlike its results-oriented scientific counterpart, is a research action openly shaped by the artist, within which participation is possible. Nicole Vennemann illustrates through exemplary case studies of Roman Signer, Carsten Höller, and Ursula Damm that this event-initiating mechanism of the experiment invites recipients to an exploratory research in an event or laboratory space. She investigates in what form artistic research exists as an aesthetic practice and whether connections to a scientific research practice are evident.
