The future of death

Product details
Death and dying are everyday occurrences that are often regarded as extraordinary. The use of abstract terms distances the issue of concrete life termination. Death thus becomes remote while still encircling life. Its presence, both in temporal and spatial perspectives, is on one hand an effect of normative concepts and on the other hand a consequence of social transformation processes. The contributions in this volume examine dying and death contexts such as cemeteries, hospices, end-of-life on the internet, anonymous burials, pet euthanasia, as well as the influence of individualization, demonstrating that the image of death is changing and new meanings are emerging.
