Product details
Alexander Schwan reexamines the well-known comparison between dancing and writing, developing a comprehensive poetics of movement as bodily writing: écriture corporelle. In an intense dialogue with theories of writing and imagery, he analyzes outstanding works of postmodern and contemporary choreography that organize dance movements as ephemeral inscriptions in space. He exemplifies how these body formations can be viewed as alterations of an imaginary written image. Thus, the study opens important theoretical perspectives for dance science and transforms the perception of movement: dance becomes visible as fleeting writing and unreadable script in space.
