A book on the topic of PTSD from the perspective of someone affected. A trauma changes an entire life. It becomes a matter of survival and perhaps a "life thereafter." Numerous symptoms of illness and strange, foreign-seeming behaviors make it difficult for both those affected and helpers to recognize: What is trauma? What are the symptoms? How can we respond positively to these behaviors? Where and how can help be provided? How can helpers properly engage with survivors? How is it possible to provide adequate treatment for those affected? There is no standard for suffering. Regardless of how small or large the trauma was or is, it is the personal suffering of the individual. Everyone experiences this suffering differently. Each person copes with it in their own way, experiences or goes through it differently, and develops individual behavioral patterns, survival strategies, and psychological reactions.
