Product details
Abdulillah Polat examines the processes of identity formation and the quest for recognition among youth in refugee families. He raises the question of how traumatic experiences of parents impact the socialization of the subsequent generation. In his empirical study focusing on Kurdish families in Germany, the author employs the method of biographical case reconstruction to illustrate the diverse and intergenerational effects of trauma and the observed coping strategies. The socialization conditions of the portrayed youth are complicated by their early assumption of responsibility for their psychologically burdened families, compounded by social disadvantages. As a result, the affected individuals face high demands even in their adolescence, which often leads to feelings of being overwhelmed.
