Migration triggers various reactions: fears, uprooting, loss, but also curiosity and the willingness to embrace the challenge, as well as hope for a better life. Integration means establishing and maintaining relationships, having trust, and daring to show recognition and mutual respect. Fears can also arise among the host population due to migration flows, such as the fear of the unfamiliar and the loss of traditional values and norms. These experiences are not new; even classic immigration countries have perceived larger waves of immigration as a threat to their culture and values. In public discourse, we often focus too much on the problems and conflict areas in the coexistence of immigrants and the host society. We must actively recognize that examples of successful integration and lived participation outweigh the negative aspects.
