On their way to the home of the god Svanson, Reneé Förster and her companions must endure many dangers. In battles against the Old Race, the Tohopka, during Reneé's capture by mercenaries, during an ambush by hired assassins, and in another encounter and fight against the Akatsukis, they repeatedly manage to escape death, sometimes by the narrowest of margins. They find new allies; a ninja, the daughter of a god, and a cavalry captain join them on their journey.
