Monkey sausage, buffalo hip, smirten – do teenagers really talk like this? When discussing language decline, youth is often cited as a cautionary example: they are supposedly ignorant of grammar and spelling, have weak expression skills, and lack a sense of language. Vulgar jargon and foul language are also criticized. However, young people do show a preference for figurative expressions, witty sayings, and language games. The language of teenagers generally presents a highly diverse and colorful picture, which is why the presentation of new youth-specific expressions, for example through publications of various dictionaries on scene or youth language, is always a popular topic of conversation. Literature of this kind certainly contributes significantly to the myth of youth language, as it creates the impression that there is a language common to all young people.
