The German couple Clara and Karl Heyer has been living and working in Valencia, a city in northern Venezuela, for several years. Both feel comfortable in this country, even though it is not always predictable how the day will unfold due to the mentality of its residents or the technical circumstances. Karl works as an engineer in a paint factory, while Clara works part-time in a travel agency. One afternoon, Clara finds her friend Manfred Gardener murdered in his house in Naguanagua. The criminal police investigate his life but discover nothing, despite all their efforts, that would explain the murder: no side businesses, no fraud, no dark past, no mistress, nothing. A motive cannot be found, and the murder remains a mystery. Commissioner Emilio Tavares and his team are joined by the German colleague Lutz Winter, who is there for two weeks.
