Guilt is a heavy burden for those who feel guilty, and it is not easy to shake off, as guilt can run very deep. But what exactly is guilt, how does it arise, and how can it be processed? This question is addressed by the experienced psychotherapist Dr. Konrad Stauss, who demonstrates, among other things, that guilt is experienced individually, can be imagined, or imposed. The burden of guilt can be alleviated through forgiveness, but if there is no one who can forgive you except yourself, it becomes difficult. The experience of guilt and its management are described against the backdrop of the understanding of Jewish-Christian spirituality, the findings of modern moral research, attachment research, neurobiological research, and self-forgiveness research.
