The first part of the book, the travelogue of a circumnavigation from 1999 to 2011, is based on the logbook of the sailing yacht Subeki. Its course leads through the Caribbean and Panama into the Pacific, all the way to New Zealand. After more than two years of pure South Sea experience, the journey continues to Australia. Through islands and countries of Asia and the Indian Ocean, navigating the challenges of the Arabian Sea and the Red Sea, the boat and crew safely reach the Mediterranean after a total of seven years, and after another five years, they return to their home port. The travelogue, written by Sybille Uehr, describes people, places, events, and emotions, as well as misfortune and luck, insights and experiences, mistakes, pleasures, and burdens—essentially, seven years of vibrant blue-water living. In addition to describing the sailing experience and impressions of foreign countries and cultures, the focus is also on the supranational family of blue-water sailors, as well as life on board.
