Following my daughter Susanne's wish, I began to write down my life story. The family is involved, and time is almost running out. Thank God the memory is still vivid enough to capture these lines about my beloved homeland Masuria. There is war, and everything is changing. In short: We are leaving our homeland, the whole clan. We have to stay in Poland for a few years, and events are overwhelming us. The war dictates our lives for many years. The elders say, "After the war, everything will be better." But until then, it is still a long way to go. It is no comfort that others are not faring any better. If we see everything as a great adventure, we are on the best path to positive thoughts. Just like many people with their families came to Poland from East Prussia at that time, the Polish citizens had to leave all their possessions behind.
