More than a hundred years ago, Winston Churchill referred to Uganda as the "Pearl of Africa" in his travel report published in 1908. Since then, much water has flowed down the Nile, and the country has experienced a tumultuous and often less than pleasant history following its declaration of independence in 1962. Only in recent years has the civil war in northern Uganda largely come to an end, and the country has once again captured the interest of Western travelers. Numerous national parks and the opportunity for gorilla tracking make it an attractive destination not only for dedicated lovers of African landscapes. In contrast, author Katharina Füllenbach focused her journey in January and February 2018 on the living conditions of the population. It was therefore natural that she traveled by public transport.
