The novel takes the reader through the many life stages of a Pontic Greek woman who grew up in northern Greece under the most basic living conditions. From a young age, she is accustomed to hard work, often missing school, which only lasts until the age of 13. As a young adult, she leaves her family to escape her father's violence and the pressures of a strict cultural upbringing. Unskilled, she seeks her future as a guest worker in Germany. The main focus is on her experiences with culture, her life as a guest worker in Germany, and the episodes of her love life.
