Drinking is one of the basic needs of humans and means much more than just quenching thirst. The high cultural significance of drinking is illustrated in this publication, which was created for the exhibition of the same name at the Ethnographic Museum of the University of Zurich, with examples of beverages from around the world. The authors explain in an understandable and relatable way the various methods of preparation, distribution, and consumption, as well as the social forces they unleash. Brief characterizations of the unfamiliar beverages are contributed by two sommeliers – an invitation to readers to enjoy the book with all their senses.
