Over the last 30 years, innovation has caught the attention of researchers and practitioners. Nowadays, innovation is seen as the key factor for maintaining a leading position in global markets. This study discusses the relationship between innovation and leadership as part of internal organization, specifically focusing on three leadership theories and intrinsic motivation, using thematic analysis and systematic literature review methodology. Twenty articles published between 2009 and 2014 have been analyzed. As a result, seven prevalent themes have been identified.
