Zygmunt Bauman is one of the most cited sociologists of our time. In the early 1990s, he was widely discussed for his sociological analysis of the Holocaust and his critique of modernity. In recent years, he has particularly distinguished himself with his diagnoses of liquid modernity. In doing so, he has revised central sociological concepts such as community, violence, morality, and, not least, politics. While his diagnoses and theses on globalized contemporary societies have found international resonance, he has also faced criticism, particularly when it became known that he worked for the Soviet secret service after World War II. Whether Bauman is indeed the theorist of the left that his anti-Stalinist enemies claim him to be is a matter of considerable doubt for the author. This book discusses Bauman's work from recent years.
