Product details

Tel Aviv 2007

A few weeks before her fiftieth birthday, Rachel Gur is on her way home, laden with her Sabbath shopping. In the deserted stairwell, she begins a ruthless reckoning with her homeland and her own past. Her monologues on the brink of madness revolve around her attempt to escape the paralyzing solidarity with the suffering of her parents, survivors of the Holocaust. The escape leads her to Germany. Here, she experiences her most beautiful spring in the Taunus with the German doctor Wolfgang. Rachel's fate is closely intertwined with the tragedy of the unrequited love of Jews for Western Europe.

Author's description: Shmuel Kedi was born in 1953 in Jaffa, the son of a Jewish rabbi's daughter and an Arab who converted to Judaism. He grew up in the Arab part of Jaffa and spent his youth in a kibbutz. Since 1980, he has lived in Germany and works as an author, musician, and music educator.
