Two sisters gather images from Lomé, the capital of the West African country of Togo, which the photographer Tobias Neumann visited repeatedly from 2009 to 2017. Two young women, two sisters, serve as his starting point to capture their familial environment with parents and siblings. Their perspective guides him through a city marked by colonial past and neocolonial present. Through the two young women he photographs in the streets of Lomé, he meets other young people. His laconic, casual shots tell of the globalized everyday life in one of the poorest countries in the world, of the personal assertion of the portrayed sisters, their efforts to build a future locally or to leave the country. Two Sisters portrays two young women who are very close to each other and whose paths ultimately diverge.
