Product details
Michelangelo, Tintoretto, Rubens – they are all artists who reference the seemingly medieval image system of typology in their major works. Alexander Linke systematically explores the modern theory and history of the impact of typological image and thought structures between the Early Renaissance and High Baroque for the first time. Typology, as a juxtaposition of Old and New Testament scenes where historical events in the Old Testament appear to be prefigured, is primarily known from medieval art. However, from the Early Renaissance to the High Baroque, leading artists of their time also drew on typological modes of thought and representation. The study focuses on the cross-epochal relevance of the tradition of representation as well as the imaginative engagement with non-ancient classical image and thought schemas. Analyses of genesis and function.
