Ackermann replaces the classic wide panoramic view with the radical use of the panoramic camera in portrait format. Combined with the bird's-eye perspective, this gives the views great spatial depth and height. The resulting images break with previous viewing habits. This type of photography seems almost tailor-made for the Dolomites: Few other mountain landscapes possess such verticality as this range, characterized by the immediate juxtaposition of blooming pastures, steep cirques, and sky-scraping peaks, towers, and pinnacles.
