Wanderer between worlds and ambassador of the Himalayas, Herbert Tichy (1912-1987) was just 21 years old when he left his hometown of Vienna on the back of a Puch 250, embarking on an adventurous journey with the Tyrolean Max Reisch to become the first to travel by motorcycle to India. Their journey became legendary and marked the beginning of a completely unconventional life for Tichy, rooted in constant movement and wandering between cultures. In 1935, he undertook his second major journey to the Himalayas, during which Tichy, disguised as a Tibetan pilgrim, circled the sacred mountain Kailash, among other feats. He spent seven years (1941-1948) in China, and further travels took him to Alaska and, in later years, to Africa. In 1953, he crossed western Nepal for the first time. A year later, he succeeded in this endeavor together with the Tyrolean Sepp Jöchler and Pasang Dawa Lama.
