Unique phenomenon: An essay, not even as extensive as a printed sheet, casually thrown onto paper by its editor for a modest daily publication, lost and forgotten for a generation, and later brought to light more or less by chance, without attracting much attention. Such a literary work is now of diverse interest to philosophers and artists, natural scientists and literary historians, poets and actors. Helmut Sembdner wrote about this, pointing out that despite its subsequent dissemination, this strange essay has still not lost a hint of exclusivity, to which its unpretentious, concise narrative style needed no justification. The long-out-of-print volume from the Insel-Bücherei is now being reissued, newly equipped with pen drawings.
