Moses Maimonides (Moses ben Maimon, 1138-1204) is one of the greatest Jewish philosophers of the Middle Ages. Born in Córdoba, he moved to North Africa in 1160. There, he served as the leader of a Jewish community, a physician, a natural scientist, and a legal scholar. The "Guide for the Perplexed" is his most important philosophical-theological work. Written in Arabic, it was translated into Hebrew during Maimonides' lifetime and had a significant influence on Jewish, Islamic, and Christian philosophers throughout the High Middle Ages.
