Karl Ernst von Baer (1792 - 1876) was a German-Baltic naturalist, embryologist, zoologist, and geographer. He is regarded as the discoverer of the human egg cell and one of the most significant natural scientists of the 19th century. His work "On the Developmental History of Animals - Observation and Reflection" is a seminal work in comparative embryology. It consists of two volumes. This book is a reprint of the original edition of the second volume from 1837.
