The most performed choral work during the Christmas season for children tells of softly falling snow on the rooftops of Leipzig, while lively activity is taking place at the Thomasschule. The choir rehearsals are in full swing: The cantor, Johann Sebastian Bach, will perform his new oratorio for Christmas. Young Thomas Trost stands in the schoolyard, listening longingly, as he too would love to sing along. When the tenor Christian invites him to help as a candle boy during the performance, Thomas' dream is within reach: He gets to be part of the Thomaner as they joyfully recount the Christmas story to the citizens of Leipzig with much celebration, singing, and magnificent music!
