Information on the articulation of the "Sch" sound

The articulation of the hissing sound "Sch" often poses challenges for preschool children. They may replace the sound with similar-sounding ones, such as "S" or "CH," or their tongue may slip between their teeth during production. In technical terms, the difficulty in producing the "Sch" sound is referred to as "Schetismus."

Examples:
1. Omission: "Ule" instead of "Schule"
2. Substitutions: "Sule" instead of "Schule"
3. Misformation: "Thule" instead of "Schule"

Up until the age of 4, this is considered a normal part of language development and is not a cause for concern. It is important that the child is able to distinguish between the hissing sounds "S," "Sch," and "CH," and that their oral musculature is developed appropriately for their age.
