The German writer, philosopher, and theologian David Friedrich Strauss (1808 - 1874) wrote this work about the great German humanist and first imperial knight Ulrich von Hutten in 1871. In this book, he describes the life of Ulrich von Hutten (1488 - 1523), depicting his monastic life, university years, and his various travels and adventures in Germany and Italy. In the second book, he details Hutten's struggle against Rome and his relationship with Luther, his participation in the Diet of Worms, and his experiences leading up to his death in 1523. This book is a comprehensive and very well-written work about one of the great heroes of German history. The present work contains both books by Strauss on the life of Ulrich von Hutten.
