Ulrich von Wilamowitz-Moellendorff (1848-1931) was one of the most significant classical philologists and scholars of antiquity in the 19th century. He studied at the Landesschule Pforta and pursued classical philology at the universities of Bonn and Berlin, where he earned his doctorate and habilitation. After holding professorships at the universities of Greifswald and Göttingen, he taught at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-University in Berlin from 1897 to 1921. As a university professor and president of the Prussian Academy of Sciences, he initiated numerous research and editing projects, some of which continue to this day. He developed a new understanding of the interpretation and criticism of ancient texts and made significant contributions to the development of the neohumanistic educational idea and the concept of 'Third Humanism.'
