The environment is one of the global megathemes of the 21st century. However, the history of the environment is rarely covered in history classes, despite compelling reasons to address it more extensively. Today's economic structures, political decision-making processes, and human values have developed historically and can only be understood in that context. The historical relationship between humans and nature provides a rich treasure of experiences that is worth exploring. It broadens and sharpens the perspective on the topic and points to the short- and long-term consequences of human actions. This volume aims to provide argumentative support for integrating environmental history into the curriculum by presenting fundamental didactic considerations and findings from empirical research. It includes numerous teaching examples.
