The obligations examined in this study regarding the unbundling of energy industry accounting (10 EnWG) pertain to both external and internal tasks of corporate accounting. It is strikingly illustrated how deeply energy law is intertwined with traditional areas of the Commercial Code and business administration, and how they interact. Section 10 (1) EnWG states in its introduction, and Section 10 (2) EnWG adds, that energy supply companies must prepare, have audited, and disclose annual financial statements in accordance with the commercial law provisions applicable to corporations. In this respect, Sections 10 (1) and (2) EnWG deal with the external tasks—particularly publicity—of corporate accounting, while a genuine separation of the various activities of an energy supply company does not take place.
