The child speaks, telling stories and counting the prefabricated buildings, the large stones at the playground, the floors and doorbells, and before you know it, you find yourself trapped in an arithmetic of loss. If a number makes one sad, a three always refers to the four that unfortunately isn’t there, and the two suffers from the three, from the absence of the one. The child counts, and there is no counting rhyme at hand that could undo the absence and bring back what is lost, because even the children's rhyme ends at the threshold of 'and you're out.'
