Approximately 13 to 15 million people in Germany suffer from chronic pain. The musculoskeletal system plays a prominent role in this context. In the field of orthopedics, muscular and vegetative causes of pain are often overlooked. However, this presents an opportunity to alleviate pain and thereby avoid over- and undertreatment with diagnostics, surgeries, and strong medications. This book explains why a shift in pain therapy is necessary so that functional-vegetative complaint complexes, which are the basis for many pain syndromes, can be adequately treated. It aims to encourage those who have not yet found the key to their pain problem. The bio-psycho-social approach takes into account physical, psychological, and social aspects in the treatment of pain conditions.
