Product details
Friedrich Pecht (1814-1903) was an art writer as well as a history and portrait painter. Pecht, who received his first artistic instruction from his father, went to the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich at the age of 19. In the following years, Pecht apprenticed with various painters and worked as a freelance painter in Munich starting in 1841. He spent some time in Italy from 1851 to 1852 and again from 1853 to 1854. In his work "A Winter in Venice," he describes how he spends the winter months in the lagoon city. The art and architecture of the city are studied and depicted in great detail, accompanied by 27 black-and-white drawings. This is a carefully revised reprint of the original edition from 1859.
