Afrokids differs from other educational baby and children's guides in one crucial point: Fajembola is aimed primarily at parents of black children and addresses their questions and fears about the healthy development and upbringing of their children. She writes about everyday situations, challenges, and decisions such as choosing a name, skin and hair care, or dealing with multilingualism. Such issues are rarely addressed in most other guidebooks. Afrokids is thus dedicated to a group of children whose existence is usually not mentioned in the German-speaking guidebook landscape. These children, who have black and/or white parents, need informed parents. Parents who can explain what racism is and how it works in a way that is understandable for children. Parents who can answer the question: "Mom, will you make me cornrows?".
