Unleashed utopia
German, David Porter, 2016Product details
The Spanish Revolution was Emma Goldman's last major fight for the ideals of anarchism. She traveled to revolutionary Spain three times between July 1936 and April 1939, each time for several months, visiting self-managed factories and agricultural collectives, anarchist trade unions and associations across the country, giving speeches and lectures, making radio broadcasts, and coordinating fundraising efforts. Officially invited by the CNT/FAI, she spent the first months of the revolution in Barcelona, where she co-published the CNT/FAI bulletin. In London, she worked in 1937 as the official representative of the CNT/FAI and regularly wrote articles for the biweekly magazine Spain and the World and for the New York publication Spanish Revolution. Just before her 70th birthday, when Franco declared the victory of the fascists, she went to Canada, where she died a few weeks later during a lecture tour.
