Product details

This book examines the impact of external debt on economic growth in Nigeria. It utilizes time series data covering the period from 1980 to 2014. The aim was to investigate the effects of external debt on economic growth in Nigeria and to determine the long- and short-term relationship between external debt and economic growth in the country. The book applied the cointegration test to explore the causal relationship and also used the error correction model and Granger causality test to ascertain the direction of the relationship between external debt and economic growth in Nigeria. The findings of the book indicate that there is a negative relationship between external debt and economic growth in the long term. Therefore, it is recommended, among other things, that all revenues and external reserves be well managed and sensibly allocated for infrastructure and development projects through proper planning to promote economic growth, thereby increasing the gross domestic product and improving the lives of citizens. The results, conclusions, and recommendations of this book will be invaluable for policymakers in sub-Saharan Africa and emerging markets to draw insights from.
