This book was created for the MDR TV series "Our Delicious Homeland," which is broadcast in the MDR region across the three federal states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia. It is an extremely successful and popular culinary series with over 50 episodes in 10 years. Like the TV documentary, the book showcases typical, unique dishes from a region, a place, or a family, such as Wermsdorf fish soup, Salzwedel Baumkuchen, Erzgebirge Neunerlei, shoemaker's pan, Torgau bacon cake, dead grandma, Thuringian Rostbrätel, Leipzig Räbchen, Weimar onion soup, deer horn cake, Altmark noodle soup, or Harz spiced meat. All these dishes reflect the preferences and character of the people to whom they belong in their everyday lives. Many of the recipes not only feature regional ingredients but have also been passed down through generations and can rightly be categorized as such.
